From the City of Glass to Central America

This project is centered on bringing information to Canadians about the social and environmental consequences of three mines owned by two Vancouver-based companies, Goldcorp inc. and Skye Resources. All three of the mines are located in Guatemala, and each has been subject to active resistance by the citizens of the affected regions.

The principal populations affected by the mining projects that are the focus of this investigation are indigenous peoples, and in particular indigenous women and children. It is these voices that Vancouver Journalist, Dawn Paley strives to bring to the fore throughout this project, through articles, radio programs and a photo exhibit to be disseminated nationally.

Support for the project by Inter Pares, the Canadian Auto Worker’s Social Justice Fund, the Public Service Alliance of Canada’s Social Justice Fund and the Dominion Media Foundation, has successfully brought news about Canadian mining companies in Central America back to Canadians.
